Shining Bright - The Dr. Dabber Aurora Vape Pen

The kind folks at Dr. Dabber have always had a great way of taking an existing product and making it even better. With their latest release, the Aurora vape pen, they have hit the proverbial ball well out of the park and landed somewhere in the northern hemisphere.

From Out of Nowhere

At first glance, the Dr Dabber Aurora appears to be your basic vapor pen but upon closer inspection this vaporizer has some very nice updated features.

The Aurora is only available in one color that appears to be an off black or space grey that Dr. Dabber describes as a "sleek, discreet satin finish". It is a really nice color and an even better finish than found on most vape pens that have a rubber coat that is prone to scratches and scraping off. Scratches and finger prints will not be an issue with the Aurora's tough finish.

Measuring in at just under 5 inches with the shotgun mouthpiece, making the Aurora a nice stealth vapor pen that can be easily concealed in the palm of your hand. The smaller length of this pen can be attributed to the 350 mAh battery and the lack of a usb passthrough charging port (meaning you cannot use this pen while charging it).

3 is a Magic Number

The Aurora has a 3 temperature variable voltage battery base indicated by the button light color: green low heat, blue medium heat, and pink high heat. The battery button is cleverly shaped in the Dr Dabber D design. While it looks slick, the top of the button is rather poky but you will certainly not have an issue finding the button in the dark.

The Aurora includes 3 different atomizers that used in conjunction of the variable voltage battery offers an array of temperature options.

The dual coil quartz heater is suitable for lower viscosity wax, while the dual coil ceramic core heater is suitable for higher viscosity wax. Both dual coil skillet heaters provide massive vapor clouds that may be a bit harsh for those with timid lungs (and be forewarned consumes your product faster).

The third atomizer is a coil free ceramic donut style heater called the "halo". The Halo skillet heater provides a much lower temperature hit with great flavor. The taste and low temp coupled with not having to worry about damaging a coil makes the Halo our personal favorite.

All three skillet heaters feature a deep chamber made from quartz. This differs from conventional atomizers that utilize a ceramic chamber. Quartz is stronger then ceramic and less prone to breakdown over time but given the short lifespan of skillets I'm not sure there is an advantage between the two.

Breathe in the Air

Vaporbrothers were the first company to introduce a hole in the cone for improved airflow. Dr. Dabber has renamed the cone with a hole as a "Vented Airflow Regulator". They did step up the vented airflow game by adding two additional holes in the atomizer base. This makes 3 holes that can be covered by your finger or left open for increased air circulation inside the cartridge.

You have the option of using either a duckbill mouthpiece or a shotgun mouthpiece. The duckbill constricts the airflow while the shotgun has a barrel style opening for maximum airflow. While they appear to be plastic, don't let looks fool you, these mouthpieces are both made from ceramic.

Colors from the Magnetoshpere

What sets the Aurora vaporizer parts from all other vape pens? How about, no more threads to strip or cones to twist off? Dr. Dabber has replaced the threads on the atomizer and battery with magnets, thus eliminating the need to twist on and twist off every time you want to load the heater, swap the skillet, or clean your pen.

After playing with the Aurora for the past week having to twist off a heater on other pens just seems so outdated and tedious. Although I have to admit I've tried to screw the cone off the atomizer of the Aurora several times when I first started toying with it.

The charger for the Aurora is also magnetic, making it a snap to connect the battery to the charging base. The charging base also includes a spot to place the atomizer cartridge while the battery is getting juice. The one big advantage of a top charger verses a passthrough charger is not having to worry about the usb port pushing up.

In the End, This is the Pen

Rounding out the Aurora vape pen kit is small silicone container with the Dr Dabber logo embossed on the lid, a fancy logo keychain, plus a sturdy little fill tool with the Dr Dabber logo on the tip.

The Dr. Dabber Aurora vaporizer unit is covered under a one year "No Questions Asked" warranty on the battery and USB charger only. As with all brands, atomizer warranty is void once used. Prior to loading for the first time, always test to make sure the skillet is heating. Dr. Dabber will not replace used heaters. All warranty coverage is handled directly through Dr Dabber, not VaporWarehouse.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the Aurora if I was in the market for a vapor pen. Dr Dabber took the best parts of the current hit pens and made some major improvements and added the innovative magnetic connectors.

Stag Vapor Co. Review: the Longer, Stronger Hit

Back in early 2013, a local brewer reached out to VaporWarehouse via our Instagram account to let us know about a new vape pen he was making. Not expecting much, I told him to stop by the warehouse to show us his pen and to bring some of the beer he was brewing (as that’s what I was really interested in). Turns out his beer was tasty and the pen was solid because 3 years after that encounter I’m writing about his product.

Legend has it that two of the founding members of Stag Vapor Co. were formerly employed by another larger name vaporizer pen manufacturer. After they parted ways, the pair decided to use their knowledge of manufacturing vape pens to start their own company. The final result being Stag Vapor Co. and a simple no frills pen that delivers.

Just prior to meeting the boys from Stag, Vaporbrothers had just released their first pen vaporizer, the Dabbler, which was a co-branded venture with Vape-Pen. Both pens were very similar in their build and we took on the Stag to offer our customers a lower priced pen, as the Stag was half the price of the Dabbler at the time.

It’s been over three years since we were introduced to the Stag Vapor Co. At a quick glance, it would appear that not much has changed since that introduction. However don’t let appearances fool you.

The Stag Vapor Co Skillet Heaters

When Stag released their original kit, the skillets were nichrome coils wrapped around a glass fiber wick. The glass fiber wick allowed the heater to be run dry and not burn up like cotton fiber wicks. About a year after Stag's first release, they introduced their "ceramiwick" skillet heaters. A hollow ceramic rod replaced the glass fiber wick. Their original kits now include one glass wick skillet and one ceramiwick skillet. The Stag Stealth Kits now include one ceramiwick skillet and one dual coil, quartz skillet.

There’s much debate about nichrome vs inconel vs titanium. My opinion, none of these skillet heaters last long enough to really even matter what the coil is made from. Nichrome has been a proven heater source for a long time now. Ever hear of a titanium toaster oven? I didn’t think so, those coils toasting your bread are made from good old fashioned nichrome.

The Stag Vapor Co. 45 Second Battery

The real improvement is found in the battery. Stag still uses a 650mAh EGO style battery with a passthrough mini-usb charging port built into the bottom. The passthrough features allows one to use the pen while charging it. This comes in mighty handy during those times you forget to charge up the pen and need to medicate. “So what’s the improvement?” I hear you saying.

Press the button and start counting: 1, 2, 3…. 20, 21, 22….30, 31,32…43, 44, 45. Whoa! The button stays lit for a full 45 seconds! And that is what sets the Stag apart from other similar vape pens.

Most vapor pens will stay lit for 10-18 seconds before disabling to prevent overheating. Stag Vapor Co. has modified the circuit board and skillets to prevent overheating and provide the strongest, longest hit possible from a pen. Granted not many people can hit a vape pen for 45 seconds but those of you with iron lungs, the Stag vape pen will be your new best friend.

The Stag Vapor Co. Deluxe Glass Globe Heater

In addition to Stag's vape pen kits, they also have a tea pot looking glass globe attachment to mimic the act of dabbing on a nail. The Stag Deluxe Globe Heater is made from borosilicate glass. It features an open top glass globe with a long glass stem mouthpiece to help cool the vapor.

The Stag Deluxe Globe has two ceramiwick mag nails (a globe nail encased in metal with a ceramic wick) and utilizes a universal 510 thread globe base. A stainless steel keychain style pick tool and silicone carb cap complete the set.

The Stag Vapor Co. Vape Pen Kit Lineup

Stag Vapor Co. offers four different variations of their 45 second vape pen: the original Skillet Kit, the original Globe Kit, a Stealth Skillet Kit, and a Stealth Globe Kit. Both the original kits include a black 650mAh battery, while both Stealth Kits include a 350mAh battery with a gunmetal finish. The mAh stands for milliampere-hour or the amount of time a battery will last between charges. Thus a 650mAh battery will last longer between charges than a 350mAh battery.

All Stag Vapor Co. batteries have a one year warranty against manufacturer defects. As with all other vape pen brands, skillet heaters that have been used or loaded are not covered by the warranty. PAX 2 vs. Crafty Vaporizer Review

So you have about $300 to spend on a portable herb vaporizer and you’re wondering “Which is better for me, the PAX2 or the Crafty vaporizer?”. Congratulations! You have a fun decision to make because really, either way, you will have chosen wisely. We are talking about the crème de la crème of portable vapes here!

I’m going to give you my thoughts on each after using them both for about 6 weeks interchangeably. Of course there will be raw data sprinkled in the mix for you data hounds. If I miss something, leave a comment or give us a call.

My husband and I are both moderate herb vapers and we really enjoyed using and getting to know each of these devices. The PAX 2 vaporizer quickly became our favorite to take to friends houses as it is a crowd pleaser. Who doesn’t love a shiny gadget that gets you high? One of my friends even snuggled it to sleep and woke up still holding it to his chest. We had to pry it away from him, it was love at first use.

The Crafty vaporizer is a great daily driver as it will take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’. It’s perfect for rough and tumble types who like quality, big vapor hits. The air flow on the Crafty is second to none and makes it perfect for those wanting a no-nonsense portable vape that has very accurate temperature control and perfectly vaped materials every time.

Session Time / Battery Life
How long does the battery last on the Crafty vs. PAX2?

For our purposes let’s say one session is one full chamber’s worth of medium-ground herb. The amount of draws in each session can vary greatly based on the type of herb used, temp setting, and draw strength.

PAX2 - a non-replaceable internal battery lasts about 70-90 minutes or about 4-6 session between charges. Depending on temperature setting you can get about 10-20 draws per session. Charge level is indicated by how many petals are lit.

Crafty - an internal lithium-ion battery lasts about 30-40 minutes of continuous use or about 3-4 sessions. You can use the Crafty while charging if the battery level has not dipped below the 20% range (again, that App is your BFF), and you will be recharged in a bout 2 hours.

As with most of the portable dry herb vapes out on the market, the battery life is nothing compared to the more efficient vape pens for wax and obviously desktop vaporizers. So don’t expect to be able to take these bad boys out overnight and sip and sip and sip and share and share and share and be able to enjoy without charging it by sunrise. I recommend picking up a backup battery charger to keep these vapes full of the go juice needed for all day or all night use.

Ease of Use

1. Maintenance

ISO alcohol is the tidy stoners nectar of the Ganja Gods. Use 91% or higher if you can find it, if you can’t find any local we carry 99% ISO.

PAX - Easy to clean with the cleaning kit provided. You will want to use the included pipe cleaners after a few sessions to clear out the air path and the mouthpieces and screens will need a soak in ISO here and there. Replacement screens, mouthpieces, pipe cleaners and other PAX accessories are available.

Crafty - Be sure to clean your O-rings with ISO and use the included brush between session fillings. Using the brush on the top screen of the Crafty Cooling Unit while the unit is still warm is highly recommended. Make this a part of your filling ritual.

Replacement parts and accessories for the Crafty vaporizer are available on our site. We recommend picking up extra screens to have on hand just in case some get too bent out of shape after use.

2. Filling/Chamber

PAX2 - filling the chamber consisted of pinching my fingers and carefully placing the ground up goodness into the chamber. Unless you get a fancy herb fill tool for it, I suggest making a little funnel to keep herbs from falling out around the PAX2 while filling. PAX 2 chamber fits about .4 grams if using a very fine grind, or .25 grams of herb if using a regular/medium grind.

Crafty - hands down is the most fun to fill because of the included slick fill tool. You can pre-grind your herbs with the included grinder and keep them stashed in the Crafty fill tool. The Crafty chamber fits .3 grams max of finely ground herbs, .2 grams is recommended.

Temperature Control

PAX2

PAX 2 is a conduction style vaporizer with a temperature range of 360 - 420 F.

Heat up time: under one minute and the flower glows green when it is ready.

Settings/Control:

A four petaled flower indicates heat setting and readiness. Push down on the top mouthpiece part to turn on the device. Push and hold down this mouthpiece part for about 2 seconds to enter the heat setting selection mode. Keep clicking mouthpiece area down to run through settings, you can then shake the device to accept desired heat setting. Yes, shake it! This baby has motion in the ocean sensors!

An internal sensor can also tell when you are drawing and will auto-control heat output based on lip and motion sensing technology. It also can tell when in use for battery saving auto-shut off feature.

The 4 preset heat settings are indicated by the lights on the flower petals.

One Petal: 360ºF (182ºC)
Two Petals: 380ºF (193ºC)
Three Petals: 400ºF (204ºC)
Four Petals: 420ºF (216ºC)

Crafty

Crafty is a hybrid conduction/convection vaporizer with a temperature range of 104-410 F.

Heat up time: about 90 seconds

Settings/Control:

A simple one push of the bright orange button turns on the Crafty and when it has reached the selected temperature it will vibrate. It reminds me of those vibrators they give you when waiting for a table, and equally if not more exciting.

If you want very precise control over your temperature settings, go with the Crafty. The Crafty App works on most Android/iPhone devices and you can select temperature, vibration, LED settings, along with other device analytics.

Durability

PAX 2 - One things to note with the PAX 2 relating to durability is the Oven Lid, the part that covers the herb chamber, it can easily swivel back and forth on a magnet. Which is a cool design feature, but it has been known to pop off if given a hard fall to the ground. So be careful as spilled herbs are not happy herbs.

Putting it in a pocket is safe. I did have one instance where I had it laying sideways in a side pocket of my purse, and all the other crap in my purse pushed in the oven lid so some herbs did spill out. If you keep it upright in a purse this is easily avoided. This was also fresh out of the gate after a cleaning, the oven lid doesn't swivel as easily once theres some sticky goodness keeping it closed.

Crafty - Probably one of the most durable vapes on the market. It would be hard to break this one. The lid, or cooling unit, can get dunked up after a few uses especially if sticky herb is being used. But simply brushing the screens out after each use will maximize time between cleaning.

Look and Feel

PAX2 - a sleek high tech gadget that has been mistaken for a backup battery charger. A four leafed flower provides you all the information you need to know about temperature setting, heat up status, battery life and more. I say more because the PAX2 even has fun hidden features!

Dims: 3.8” x 1.2” x .09”.

Crafty - built more bulky like a walkie talkie and can survive a tumble or a thousand. It can fit in a back pocket but it’s big enough to notice it’s presence.

Versatility of Material
Can the PAX2 vape wax?

PAX2 is for good ‘ol fashioned flowers only. Do not try to put wax in the PAX2 as it will become a runny mess all over the device. Trust us. If you need the versatility of both herbs and wax, go with the Crafty.

Crafty wins on versatility as you can use it with both herbs and extracts. A liquid pad is included in the package so you are able to enjoy it with extracts from day one.

Portability
How portable is the Craft vs PAX2?

PAX2 - The super sleek and slim design fits in the palms of most hands and in the pockets of most pants, making the PAX2 session a very discreet experience. The battery lasts a bit longer than the Crafty so the portability factor is probably just a tad stronger for the PAX2.

Crafty - Very portable. No worries of lids falling off if in the hands of clumsy people. Not as discreet as most hands do not hide the device and will be noticeable in a pocket.

Flavor / Hit Quality
What has better vapor quality, PAX2 or Crafty vaporizers?

Both options have the best flavor and hit quality of any other portable vapes in my opinion. Each of them have a significant vapor products compared to most other vapes on the market right now. Some would argue this isn’t necessarily a major selling point as some people prefer a lighter, less vapor filled hit. But if you do enjoy big vapor clouds, either one of these devices will not disappoint.

PAX2 on Level 3 temp setting with a sticky, moist Super Sour OG herb got 7 big rips before popcorn taste.

Crafty has the most free flow of air through the device of any portable and it results in very even vaporization and very tasty, big hits.

Price / Warranty

Kandypens Donuts Vape Pen Review

KandyPens Donuts vape pen is unique in that it uses one of the first coil-less ceramic “donut” heaters that not only works, it works well. The main difference between KandyPens Donuts Heaters and vape pen heaters that use coils is the SloBurn technology. Instead of blasting your concentrated material with heat through a coil, the ceramic donut shaped disc on the bottom of the chamber heats slowly. Less vapor production is apparent when exhaling, but the uplifting effect on the mind is still ever-present!

Look and Feel

KandyPens as has vibrant, shiny, candy coated feel to the vape pen. It’s small and very discreet to hold in your hand. The button is raised which makes finding and pushing it quite easy. A 510 thread, 350 mAh top charging battery has color coded lights to tell you the voltage level. The light coding is a little unintuitive for me as red = low, green = medium, and blue = high. I always think of red as hottest but this is not the case with the Donuts vape pen.

Ease of Use

Using the KandyPens Donuts vape pen is very simple. Charge up the battery, load your wax with the provided load tool, set the voltage/temperature and inhale the goodness. Take care to keep concentrated materials off the threads and battery contact, ISO alcohol will keep your vape clean and happy.

As with any vape pen, KandyPens Donuts heaters are a consumable part and will need to be replaced here and there. Heater life can be prolonged by not overpacking the chamber, which can hold .5 grams of concentrate. If you feel the need to put in this much, you will need to use the included stir tool to even out the material as it will stick to the sides once cooled.

Battery/Session Time

Three voltage settings are available and Kandypens states there are three temperature settings that coincide with the voltage: 350 F, 390 F and 430 F. I’m not sure how accurate these heat settings are, so if you are into really accurate temperature control I would suggest a different device. What is nice about the voltage settings is that when the battery seems to be getting low, cranking it up a notch will help prolong your session.

The Kandypens Donuts vape pen battery is a top charger. You will need to remove the top heater portion from the battery unit and screw on the charger to the top of the battery. This means you will have to wait a little over an hour before your next session as it cannot be used while charging.

Battery life is what one can expect from a 350 mAh battery. Appealing as discretion may be to those living in less tolerant parts of the world, discretion and battery longevity do not come hand in hand. If you want a small, inconspicuous vape pen that gives very light (but effective!) vapor hits, this one is for you. If you want a long lasting battery with monster vapor clouds, move along.

Versatility

Wax and concentrated oils should only be used in this vapor pen. That said, the versatility rating isn’t as high as say the DaVinci Ascent that can vaporize both wax and herbs with ease. Or to go even further the Have V3 can also vape liquid e-juice which makes it the most versatile of the vape kingdom. Granted you lose the sleek pen form factor when versatility is the criteria.

A slim pen has yet to be designed that can effectively vaporize both herbs and wax. The day will come, it’s just not here today! Many manufacturers will claim their slim pen will vaporize both herbs and wax, but if you look at the plant material coming out of these pen heaters, you will see they actually combusted.

Portability

A clamp shell case holds the pen, charger and small dabber load tool. I usually carry my vape pens upright in the side pocket of my purse for running around on the daily. However, the case is nice to have to keep all the necessities together in one place if traveling or when I don’t necessarily need it on my person.

Heat Up Time

Instant. Push the button and begin puffing lightly and slowly. This is where the slow burn technology comes into play. If you are used to coiled vape pen heaters that give a blast of nail-like vapor hits, you will think this is weak sauce if you’re not prepared for it.

Flavor/Taste

Vapor production is very light with the SloBurn technology coined by Kandypens. Since the ceramic dish is running at a slower and lower temperature it seems gentler on the extracts compared to traditional titanium/ceramic heaters. This gentle effect creates very flavorful hits.

Durability

Vape pens like the Kandypens Donuts are quite durable as there are no glass or moving parts. Things to look out for: keeping threads aligned while screwing down the heater and battery, removing heater from battery portion if putting in pants pocket (trust us on this one).

Other than those two points, the pen is pretty hard to break. A very hard fall could break the connections in the heater, and the yummy candy coating could scratch off if one tried hard enough. However, these are things that can be remedied with a new heater and some creative paint mend. The overall vaporizer experience will not be effected easily by tumbles and falls.

Warranty

Kandypens offers a Lifetime Warranty on the battery. When I challenged their customer service rep and asked “Whose lifetime?” They responded “Yours, your lifetime.” What? How do they do that? So according to their support chat attendant on duty that day if the battery needs replacing, even 42 years later, you will get your battery.

Vape Pen History in the Making

Legend has it that in 2008, Utopia Plantia Technologies (formerly known as THC Scientific and Warp 9 Technologies) released what was arguably one of the first vape pens designed for wax and concentrates that didn’t require the use of glycerin. Their flagship vapor pen was christened as the Omicron setting the stage for numerous products to be with named after themes from the popular cartoon series Futurama.

For many years the Omicron vape pen, along with it’s powerhouse brother the Persei, reigned supreme as the elite portable vaporizers for extracts and concentrates. As technology improved the market became crowded with smaller, thinner vape pens. While not as versatile or powerful as the Omicron and the Persei, the lower price point and stealth of the compact pens appealed to more users. UP Tech answered the call of that market with various vape pens like the O-Phos, Omicron Lite, and Minicron vaporizers.

At the vapor forum, Fuck Combustion, the trackable history of the Omicron begins on Sept. 16th, 2011 with an introduction to the Omicron V2 by Gary Bay, founder of UP Tech. From the photos in his first post the Omicron V2 prototype is more akin to what would later become the Persei. When the Omicron V2 finally hit the market it was slimmer and gone was the passthrough charge feature.

Unlike the current model, the Omicron V2 was powered by a single, rechargeable 14650 IMR battery. The microprocessor was placed in the screw on head that also housed a 601 thread mod base for the various attachments that would soon follow.

The included 2.4 ohm extract cartridge could be filled with between 0.5 to 1.0 grams of thick oils or wax extracts making the Omicron a popular choice for people not wanting to constantly reload a cartridge. The flavor and performance these carts provided were unrivaled at the time they were released.

The drawbacks to the extract carts was the difficulty to fill, not quite being able to tell when the wax was finished, and leaking if not stored in the proper position. Experienced users overcame the drawbacks and still prefer these carts to the current skillet heaters.

But for the majority of vape pen users looking for an easier method, UP Tech created their own skillet heater called the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) cart in 2014. The K.I.S.S. Cart V1 was one of the first skillets on the market to use a ceramic rod in place of the traditional fiber wick and a titanium coil. But the K.I.S.S. carts sure looked a little silly sitting on top of the Omicron V2.5 and Persei.

A Vapor Legend is Reborn

Fast forward to 2016 and UP Tech has completely redesigned their classic vaporizer now known as the Omicron V4. Where Will the Journey Take You?

Much like the computer transition from desktop to laptop to smartphone, the hottest selling vaporizers today are portable. Vapor pens have the most appeal due to their slim, sexy look. But while a vapor pen is ideal for concentrates, they are not so great for dry leaf.

There have been a number of promising new dry leaf portable vaporizers recently released that include the Arizer Air, PAX 2, DaVinci Ascent, and two from Volcano creator Storz & Bickel: the Mighty and the Crafty. These are all great vaporizers but they come with a hefty price tag. Customers looking for a solid dry leaf portable vaporizer well under $200, there is the tried and true classic, the Magic Flight Launch Box.

Before the arrival of the aforementioned dry leaf portable vaporizers, the Magic Flight was always the one I recommended to customers. It is compact, silent, and can withstand being carted about in one's pocket. A big plus is that this little vape will last for years. These features coupled with the low price tag, means it is still the portable vaporizer that I recommend the most for dry leaf.

Don't be quick to dismiss the Launch Box at first glance. The rectangular wood box and double AA battery might not look as sleek and modern as a pen. But despite it's simple, organic look, there was a lot of thought, engineering, and love put into the design to make it an effective, efficient portable vaporizer.

Like almost every other vaporizer out there, the Magic Flight has a learning curve and this is where it looses some people that are quick to write off the Launch Box. With a little patience and technique (hint: read the very detailed instruction manual), the Launch Box will take you on a journey for less than half the price of it's next nearest competitor.

Be assured, the kind folks at Magic Flight do not rest on their laurels. They continue to release innovative products that capture the spirit of nature mixed with ancient mysticism. In the last year Magic Flight released the revamped Power Adapter 2.0 (shouldn't it now be 2.1?) and the alchemy inspired Orbiter bubbler for use with the Launch Box. These two additions to the Magic Flight family have elevated the Launch Box to a whole new level and secures it's spot as one of the best portable vaporizers for dry leaf.

My VB2 Love Affair

VaporWarehouse is a sister company to VaporBrothers, or should I say brother company? Either way, I had the pleasure to test out the long-awaited VaporBrothers VB2 while it was still in development. The VapeXhale Cloud EVO-lution Continues

EVO is for Evolution. To us here at Vaporwarehouse, evolution is a good thing. It usually means you have been learning, adapting and changing for the better (hopefully). The people over at VapeXhale are constantly evolving for the better as their newest VapeXhale Cloud EVO vaporizer keeps evolving to exceed expectations.

When the Cloud EVO first came to market it was for dry herb with EZ Load Bowls and used with a dry mouthpiece. This is a very enjoyable way to use the VapeXhale Cloud EVO. If using the Swagger Glass Hydratube, the Hydrafoot must be close by as the Hydratube is not made to stand on it’s own.

Updated Vaporbrothers Dabbler Ceramic Core Heater Review

Towards the end of last year Vape-Pen teased everyone by releasing an initial run of Ceramic Core Heaters for the portable Vaporbrothers Dabbler vaporizer pen. These heaters quickly sold out. Then all went silent while Vaporbrothers worked with Vape-Pen on issues relating to the performance of the Ceramic Core.

Most vapor pen companies use a wick made from cotton and other materials that will burn up if run dry and give off bad taste and odors. Vape-Pen‘s high quality glass fiber wick for the stock Vaporbrothers Dabbler heaters is non toxic and completely inert, eliminating any problem if the Dabbler is run dry. Unlike cotton based wicks, this glass fiber wick does not give off a bad taste or odor.

Currently the Dabbler Ceramic Core Heaters are only available as a "3-in-1". For those who might get excited at the term “3-in-1,” sorry it does not mean you can use oil, wax, and flower with this cartridge. Instead it refers to the three parts of the cartridge: heater, cone, and mouthpiece. Let's take a look at all three parts starting with the heater.

To address customer concerns about using a wick of any sort, Vape-Pen replaced the glass fiber wick with a solid ceramic rod for the Ceramic Core Heaters. For this second round of Ceramic Core Heaters, the ceramic rod is slightly more porous than the initial batch. There is a trade off to having a rod instead of a wick, and that is a decrease in wicking action. The wick acts a bit like a sponge, absorbing oil, and delivering it to the coil. Keep in mind that fiber wicks are much better at this function than ceramic rods. To offset the decrease in wicking action, the ceramic rod is now set deeper into the bowl so that it can attract the oil to the heater more effectively.

Like the stock Dabbler heaters, the Ceramic Core Heaters employ a ceramic dish and Vape-Pen’s proprietary inconel wire coil wrapped around the ceramic rod. Unfortunately this coil, while a bit more rugged than the original design, still can be damaged easily, rendering the heater useless. Please use care when loading or cleaning the heater not to damage this coil.

Something else to note about the coil in the new Ceramic Core Heaters: It does not glow as bright as it does with the glass fiber wicks. This is not due to a change in resistance, but the amount of heat required to warm up the ceramic rod. It may even require a 10 second run on the button just to preheat the rod. So don't be alarmed when your coil doesn't glow as bright as it once did; your Vaporbrothers Dabbler vape pen is still fine. The lower temperature of Dabbler’s coil is one reason behind why Dabbler is a better tasting pen.

To increase airflow and ward off any problems if the ceramic core gets clogged by oil, a vent hole has been added to the cone to improve air circulation within the cartridge and help move the oil about. This is further aided by the hefty metal mouthpiece that doesn't restrict the airflow as much as the stock Dabbler mouthpiece. Just use a bit of caution when bringing this to your mouth so you don't chip those pearly whites.

The Ceramic Core Heater was designed as an alternative to the Glass Fiber Wick Heater. While some customers view this as an improvement, the performance of the Glass Wick Heaters can still rival that of the Ceramic Core Heaters. You now have a choice and we feel you can't go wrong with either choice.

Evolve with the VapeXhale Cloud EVO Vaporizer

Close to two years ago, I received an e-mail from Seibo, the CEO of VapeXhale, introducing his company and their vaporizer named the Cloud. I mistakenly thought he was selling one of the Cloud pen vaporizers and I attempted to brush him off. Being the gentleman and good businessman that Seibo is, he set me straight about the VapeXhale Cloud vaporizer.

As Seibo is a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, we made several attempts to meet up after our initial e-mail exchange. At the time we both had (and still have) young children at home. Coupled with Seibo holding down a day job elsewhere, our attempts to meet never happened.

At some point last year, King from Vapor Review Blog was pushing me to meet with Seibo and check out the updated Cloud vaporizer, now named the VapeXhale Cloud EVO. King explained that Seibo was concentrating all of his time to working with VapeXhale. Following King's advice I reconnected with Seibo and we set a date to meet us the warehouse.

We always approach every new vaporizer with a bit of skepticism and the Cloud EVO was no exception. As soon as Seibo set up the EVO it was clear that this was going to be an exceptional vaporizer. And indeed it was.

Seibo explained that the Cloud EVO has an all glass air path running through the center of the vaporizer. The glass vapor path, nicknamed "Bamboo", is not hidden and can be easily viewed through the top and bottom of the vaporizer. The Bamboo is not a straight tube but has some ridges in it, resembling stalks of bamboo. The Perputuheat System design creates turbulance and agitation of the air, allowing for better heat transfer and vaping at lower temperatures.

Speaking of temperatures, the Cloud EVO has a nice feature to allow you to know when the vaporizer has reached your desired heat. When first switched on and cool, the bamboo glass tube will glow red. When the EVO reaches the temperature it is set to the LED light will shift from red to green. A simple but effective way to know the EVO is ready for use.

A male 18.8mm ground glass joint tops the bamboo. This top piece serves as two functions: to hold the EZ Load Bowls and a place to attach the mouthpiece, Hydratube, or your own favorite water piece.

The EZ Load Bowls, or ELB, are used to hold the flower or dry leaf. Seibo even showed us how to use the ELBs for concentrates making the EVO that much more impressive (we will save that trick for another time). The ELBs are made from a fine stainless steel mesh to ensure effective, even vaporization.

Now one can question is this is this still an all glass vapor path if you have the air passing through metal? I immediately asked Seibo if they have plans to create an all glass or ceramic ELB to address this and he assured me something is in the works. For those of you concerned about off-gassing of stainless stain, most vaporizers (if not all) cannot reach the temperatures that can cause this.

Now onto the most impressive function of that 18.8mm ground glass tip: attaching the glass piece of your choice to deliver the vapor. Currently VaporWarehouse is offering the VapeXhale Cloud EVO with the Dry Hydratube (despite the term hydra this tube does not use water). The Dry Hydratube is an approximately 10" piece of curved borosilicate glass with a female 18.8mm opening to allow for attaching to the EVO to act as a mouthpiece.

VapeXhale also offers a selection of custom, high quality German borosilicate glass Hydratubes that allow for the ultimate water vapor experience. VapeXhale employs Swagger Glass to produce several of their Hydratubes for use with water that feature various percolators and diffusers.

Because the VapeXhale EVO does not need to be in the upright position to use, this allows one to use their favorite water piece in conjunction with the EVO. That is assuming that water piece has an 18.8mm female connection, like the Vaporbrothers Clear Precision Hydrator. Being able to use the EVO in any position allows for use with many different devices and possibilities.

And for those of you feeling like vaping in classic mode, you can use any 18.8mm vaporizer whip with the VapeXhale Cloud EVO.

As for performance, the VapeXhale Cloud EVO's Perputuheat System is not affected by thermal degradation. This provides for full, tasty vapor clouds wether you inhale strong and fast or slow and steady. After several tests with Seibo, we can verify that the EVO does indeed provide stong, flavorful hits and lives up to VapeXhale's selling points.

Vaporbrothers Dabbler Glass Tube Heater

Vaporbrothers and Vape-Pen have released their version of the globe for the Dabbler pen vaporizer with their glass tube heater.

The borosilicate Dabbler Glass Tube Heater is sleeker, compact and a bit more discreet than the traditional glass vaporizer globes. Borosilicate glass can handle extreme temperature changes and is the same glass used in scientific glassware. At a quick glance they mimic many of the liquid pen tanks found on the market today.

Like the stock dabbler heaters, the skillet features a ceramic bowl. Housed inside the ceramic bowl is a glass fiber wick wrapped with durable inconel wire. The advantage of the glass fiber wick compared with other fiber based wicks is the glass fiber can be heated dry without burning or smoking. This is very important to ensure great flavor and taste.

To maintain consistency, quality, and safety Vape-Pen purchases the inconel wire from Europe. Heavy duty inconel wire lasts longer and does not break down like ordinary nichrome coils. This is the same coil found in the heater that the Dabbler vaporizer ships with.

The Latest Craze: Vaporizer Pens

Vape Pens are the hottest selling item these days at most vaporizer shops. They come in various sizes and styles, and some even claim that they can vaporize anything. Before you jump on the band wagon, take some time to make sure that a vape pen is right for you.

First, do you want a vape pen for oils & waxes, or dry leaf, or both? If you are not aware of oils & wax, chances are a vape pen is not for you as vape pens are geared towards these uses.

Despite the many claims out there almost every single en vaporizer does not work well with dry leaf. Almost every vaporizer pen combusts, not vaporizer, the leaf. We are not in the business of combustion, so we cannot recommend most vape pens for use with leaf.

The UP Tech Hercules Leaf Chamber used with either the Omicron or Persei Vaporizer is one of the few exceptions. After getting over the learning curve this is a great combo. UP Tech is one of the few pen vaporizer manufacturers to push the envelope with the design.

Our current best selling pen for oils is the Vaporbrothers Dabbler by Vape-Pen. Vape-Pen produced the first vaporizer pen back in 2009. Unlike many of the 510 thread pens, the Vaporbrothers Pen features an advanced micro-processer for internal temperature control.

After attending Champs in Las Vegas in July, we witnessed about several different style vape pens rebranded with well over 100 different names. With all the different vape pens on the market you are probably wondering which one to pick. Most of these vaporizer pens are very similar, however the Vaporbrothers Dabbler, made by the original Vape-Pen manufacturer, is a bit different. Here's a little info on the Vaporbrothers Dabbler heater and how it is better than the competition.

You can see in the image below that the Dabbler heater has more wraps than the best competitor heater we have found. Extra wraps that are evenly spaced allow for better heat distribution throughout the ceramic dish.

Additionally the Dabbler wire is thicker and is now made from inconel wire, the best choice, but not the cheapest. Other wires are most likely made from nichrome, which is a fine material but inconel should last longer. Titanium coils are starting to make an appearance. But there is some skepticism in the industry about some of the products claiming to be titanium, heater coils included.

Next you should check out the fiber of the wick. The Dabbler is made from a high quality scientific glass (borosilicate) fiber, bound tightly, that is not fiberglass. If you have a heater and you see the wick burning, that is a clear sign it is not made from glass fiber.

A word of caution when using any heater with a wick & coil. The coil is fragile and can be easily damaged, rendering the heater useless. We have spoke with several customers that have damaged their heater after just a few uses. Improper loading or dabbing and stirring can break the coil. So please use care when loading the heater.

When selecting a replacement skillet for your pen vaporizer, choose the Vaporbrothers Dabbler heater to be sure you get the best heater made with inconel wire, true glass fibers, and ceramic bowl.

Sound of Contact - Dimensionaut Album Review

If it wasn't for Progressive Rock (although I'm not even sure that term was around in 1978 when I discovered this music), I most likely wouldn't be where I am today. My experimental youth began at a very early age and bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, Jethro Tull, and especially Genesis provided the soundtrack to much of that experimentation.

Later on my passion for music would lead me to drop out of college so I could get a superviser position at the local record store. From there I went on to manage local bands and work for a few major record companies. After 20 years of working in the music biz it was time to move on so I could begin to again appreciate music, my first love.

This week I purchased (yes I really do purchase my music) the newest project from Simon Collins' band, Sound of Contact. Simon is the son of that famous drummer and singer from Genesis, Phil Collins. Simon's last few albums were less prog and leaned a little more techno. Although both of those genres collided on his last album U-Catastrophe in the song "The Big Bang", which found father and son playing dueling tribal drums set against some progressive electronica.

Sound of Contact's debut album is named "Dimensionaut". A concept album, in their words about a "space traveler who is on a mission to expand the boundaries of the human experience." Despite being an old proghead, I usually cringe when I hear the words "concept album", with few exceptions, I find this to be the weakest link of almost any album. Most recent examples that come to mind are the latest albums from Rush and Ian Anderson. Just calling it a concept album traps the songs into a box, and most of these concepts tend to be half hearted stories.

Unfortunately, my itunes purchase of Dimensionaut did not come with a digital booklet (a bit surprising considering the tech background of some of the band members). Without the booklet, I have no clue who wrote what, who played on what, and most importantly a lack of lyrics to make sense of the "concept". The barrage of lyrics will take some time to digest before I can make heads or tails of the story other than what I was told from the band's website. Then again that may be a plus as I get to focus more on the music and less on the concept. So let's get on with the music.

Sound of Contact

The album opens with some space static and morse code followed by a brief clash of guitar and drums that rapidly turns into the first Pink Floyd tease on the album. Keyboardist Dave Kerzner, founder of Sonic Reality, samples instruments from some the top bands and musicians. It was his work with Tony Banks on the final Genesis tour that introduced Dave to Simon. Dave wastes no time on the album finding the exact keyboard sound that Pink Floyd used at the start of Echoes. The echoes of Floyd blends with some brief vocals before launching into "Cosmic Distant Ladder", a rock prog metal instrumental with Simon sounding like his dad on drums.

This agressive piece turns into a keyboard tease of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" to introduce "Pale Blue Dot" and Simon singing some infectious lyrics. Right off the bat this song hit me and hit me hard. This song is catchy, rocking, and despite being mired in the concept can easily stand on it's on two feet. If the lyrics "Pale Blue Dot" aren't stuck in your head after hearing this tune, you'd better get that head checked. Easily my favorite tune off this album.

I'm still on the fence about the next song, "I am Dimensionaut", it has some great moments but I think this may be the first place they lack having an outside producer (Simon and Dave were co-producers, and I believe that Nick Davis engineered the album). The vocal intro seems a bit awkward to me but once the song gets some legs you quickly forget about the awkward. This is one of the tunes on the album that requires repeated listens before grasping how good of a tune it really is.

"Not Coming Down" shows that not only does Simon sound like his father at times on both drums and vocals but Simon has the gift of writing (assuming he wrote it) a catchy ass song just like his dad. And like "Pale Blue Dot" this song was an instant hit with me and didn't require repeated listens but did prompt me to listen to it repeatedly. It's a bit of an edgy ballad, complete with strings, that stands on it's own lyrically outside the concept. One things for sure, if "Pale Blue Dot" isn't stuck in my head "Not Coming Down" certainly is.

"Remote View" so far has been a very forgettable song. That's not to say it's bad, it's not, it's just bookended by better songs like "Beyond Illumination" featuring Hannah Stobart. "Beyond Illumination" finds Simon sounding more like Peter Gabriel than his father. The song could easily be a Gabriel tune with it's bouncy rhythm, abstract lyrics, and catchy chorus. Hannah comes in at the halfway point complimenting Simon's voice like Kate Bush did on several Peter Gabriel tunes.

"Only Breathing Out" is a great song but falls into the forgettable realm like "Remote View". Both songs sound reminiscent of bands like Fuel, Our Lady Peace from the late 90's and early 2000s. In reflection, most times Simon sounds more like the leader singer of Our Lady Peace than his father. Not surprising considering Simon grew up in Canada. And both songs are good and will probably stand out a bit more after repeated listens (although I am guilty of listening to this album at least 20 times in the last 3 days).

A now for the next Pink Floyd tease, "Realm of In-Organic Beings" is spacey, dreamy, and upbeat music piece that makes me feel a bit like floating through a happy space. I'm not sure who the female vocalist is (digital booklet, guys) but it sounds like they sampled Clare Torry's vocals from "The Great Gig in the Sky". It's a little too close to her voice.

"Closer to You" has Simon sounding like he is singing one of his Dad's songs. I'm a sucker for Phil's music so I have no problem with this. This song could easily fit in on Phil's Testify album.

"Omega Point" points the band back on it's concept course and has some driving, spacey guitar noodlings and signature Phil Collins drum fills. You won't find yourself humming the lyrics but it's a good segway into the final beast of a track.

No progressive, concept album would be complete without the 20 minute song and "Mobius Slip" certainly fits that cliche. Unlike some long songs that completely miss the mark, Mobius Slip is a great 20 minutes of music filled with nods to Pink Floyd. You will hear "Welcome to the Machine", "Empty Spaces", and "Echoes" as the band takes the dimensional traveler on a final psychedelic journey into space.

And like Dark Side of the Moon, keep this album on repeat and the final static and morse code that starts the album, ends the album making for a nice continuous loop.

Back in the days before VCRs, video games, MTV, or computers, music was one of the only forms of entertainment that you could play over and over again. Progressive or Art Rock, as we called it back then, appealed to me because the music was like a movie that painted pictures in my mind. Spending the last 3 days just listening to Sound of Contact's "Dimensionaut" brought back a bit of the magic from my youth with a sound pointed towards the future.

Update: After spending a week with the album, it only improves with each spin. If I had to describe their music, it would be a mix of the best parts of Porcupine Tree and Our Lady Peace, with a solid touch of Pink Floyd.

Understanding the Basics of a Vaporbrothers Vaporizer Whip

I don't think a day goes by that we don't receive a phone call from a customer confused about their vaporizer whip. With that in mind I will attempt to clear up some of the confusion.

What is a Vaporizer Whip?

When using a box style vaporizer like the Vaporbrothers, there are two main components: the box that houses the heat element, and the whip. A vaporizer whip is the piece that you load your blend into, place against the heat element, and inhale the vapor through.

The original Vaporbrothers vaporizer whip (what we now call the "classic", basically any whip that is not an EZ Change Whip) and the Vaporbrothers EZ Change Whip consists of three main parts:
1) Handpiece or Wand - This is the part that houses the screen, holds the blend, and is placed to the heat element.
2) Hose or Tube - This is the part that connects the handpiece to the mouthpiece. Available in medical grade, clear plastic or white silicone.
3) Mouthpiece - The part that you hold to your mouth and inhale through. Available in clear & fancy glass, or ceramic.

Do you have a Hands Free or Standard Vaporizer?

When purchasing a replacement whip, you first need to figure out if you need Hands Free or Standard. Standard Whips are designed to be held to the heat element, they will not attach to the element. Hands Free Whips have a ground glass tip that allows the whip to create an airtight connection when used with a Hands Free Vaporizer. Depending on which glass blower produced the whip, either "HOT" or "CAUTION" is printed in red on the tip of the Hands Free Whips. If you have a Standard Vaporizer, you can only use standard whips. If you have a Hands Free Vaporizer, you can use either hands free or standard whips. Please see our very information page on the difference between Hands Free and Standard for a detailed breakdown between the two styles.

Vaporbrothers Vaporizer Whips are available in various styles: Classic, EZ Change, Clear Glass, Ceramic, Fancy Glass, or a combo of different styles. Clear Glass vs. Fancy Glass vs All Natural Mineral Whips

Originally all of the Vaporbrothers Whips were only available in either clear or fancy glass (colored, fritted, fumed, and knobby). The U.S. glass blowers Vaporbrothers employ use only the finest borosilicate glass to produce their vapor whips. In 2011, Vaporbrothers introduced the first all natural mineral EZ Change Whip. This ceramic whip is made from the material Vaporbrothers uses to produce their 100% pure ceramic heat element. While the white ceramic whips are more durable than their glass counterparts, some customers prefer the glass due to it's visibility. Ceramic Whips are only available in the EZ Change style, while the glass whips are available in both the EZ Change and Classic styles.

Classic Style or Easy Change Whips

Anyone that has ever gone through the process of changing a screen in the classic style vapor whips knows how difficult this can be. In 2009, Vaporbrothers revolutionized the easy screen change whips when they introduced their glass EZ Change Whip. Prior to the introduction of the Vaporbrothers EZ Change Whip, the knockoff easy change whips used metal and glue to hold the glass parts together. Vaporbrothers ditched both metal and glue, and created a connector made from medical grade silicone. This silicone connector, known as the Whip Grip, allows you to remove the Whip Tip by simply bending it off. No more screwing or twisting to get the tip off. A .625" screen rests on a lip inside the Whip Grip and is held in place by the Whip Tip. You can literally replace the screen in less than 10 seconds, thus the name EZ Change.

The other benefit that the EZ Change Whip provides is the use of either .625" stainless steel or .625" ceramic screens. The ceramic screens are made for those wanting to element metal from the air path. A couple downsides to the ceramic screens are the holes are larger than those on the stainless steel screens and allow small particles to get through the screen. Plus these holes tend to clog up with oil and are a bit harder to clean than their stainless steel counterparts. Vaporbrothers heat treat their stainless steel screens before releasing them to the public. There's really no safety issue with their screens as the heat needed to off gas would disintegrate your blend well before it released any toxins from the screen. As a word of caution, never use brass screens.

So which whip will you choose?

The ceramic EZ Change Whip or the clear glass Mini-Thin Whip or a limited edition hands free Artist Series Whip? I've spoke with customers that love the classic style whips and dislike the EZ Change, and viceversa. In the end only you can decide which style vaporizer whip is best for your needs. Lately we've been spending an awful lot of time promoting the new portable Vaporbrothers vaporizer, the Dabbler by Vape-Pen. However many of you are looking for a portable vaporizer that is better suited for flower or loose leaf, not wax or oil like the most Vape-Pens were designed for. If you are using flower in a pen vape you are most likely combusting, not vaping. Exception to this rule might the Atmos Raw but we've been hearing conflicting reports on this. Pen vapes aside, there are some great portable aromatherapy vaporizers on market suited for flower but most of them are in the upper price range and not very compact.

Made in Canada, the Arizer Solo is probably one of the best flower portable vapes out there but it's a bit bulky and doesn't fit in your pocket too well. A feature that I think most people would want with a portable. One reason you don't see too many photos on our Instagram site of the Arizer, I like to throw a vape in my pocket and take a stroll about for photos. Not to mention the glass stem doesn't stay on there too well, so vaping on the go with the Arizer Solo Vaporizer isn't ideal. It would be great for camping.

Thermo Essence Technologies, a San Francisco Bay Area based company, has some great portable vaporizers made right here in the Bay Area. VaporWarehouse carries their Thermo Vape T1 vaporizer. The Thermovape T1 is a bit more pocket friendly and wallet friendly than the Arizer Solo. Coming in a just under $200 these portable vaporizers fit rather nicely into the side pocket of carpenter jeans (when I'm not wearing shorts, I've got carpenter jeans on). My only complaint with the T1 is the body is mostly plastic and metal, not my visual style. Their new Cera ceramic portable vaporizer takes the T1 to a whole new level but it's priced a bit higher than most desktop model vaporizers.

Priced just over the $100 mark and made in the U.S.A., is my personal favorite portable vape: the Magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer. Being a long time fan of the Vaporbrothers Vaporizers, the Magic Flight seems like the perfect mate for my Vaporbros. The Launch Box is available in Maple, Cherry, and Walnut wood. These are beautifully handcrafted with a message of love found on the back of every MFLB. Simple, small, but extremely effective best describes the Magic Flight. Measuring in at 2.5 inches at it's longest side, the Launch Box will fit into the coin pocket of those carpenter jeans I'm so fond of. Over time the wood seasons with the oils from your hand and gives the box even more character. Powered by a single rechargeable AA battery, the operation is silent and eliminates the use of butane unlike many of the other portable leaf vapes. The MFLB works in pretty much any weather condition making it the perfect portable for hiking, biking, skiing, and sunset walks on the beach (couldn't resist that one).

So for those of you looking for a portable vape that works great with loose leaf and comes in well under the $200 range, my recommendation is the Magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer. Plus it's backed by a true lifetime warranty.

O-Phos & Omicron Portable Vaporizer Review

Game Changer. That's the only way I can describe the O-Phos and Omicron portable vaporizers. As I write this review I am sitting on an airplane with my O-Phos in my pocket. While it is technically illegal to use electronic cigarettes on an airplane by utilizing discretion I have not had any problems. These devices are tiny, discrete, and instant, producing a pleasant non-distinct aroma. This allows you to sneak tokes in places never possible before; on airplanes, in movie theaters, the grocery store, the bar, everywhere! It has almost become a game among my friends to find the most interesting places to sneak a sip where other portables like the Magic Flight may not be viable. The battery life on these units is excellent, the O-Phos will last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on use and the Omicron battery lasts even longer. I personally prefer the look of the O-Phos vaporizer as it looks more like a pen when I pull it out of my pocket and I like ! how I can just plug it into the USB port on my computer to charge whenever I sit down. The Omicron vaporizer has a little more power than the O-Phos allowing for more versatility in cartridge selection and add ons.
With the good inevitably comes some drawbacks. The first one for many people is access to materials that you an use in the cartomizers. To work best they require waxes or oils that can vaporize at fairly low temperatures. There is a new add-on for the omicron that allows dry flower material to be used but we have not tried it yet. I suspect it will be more cumbersome than the cartomizers and likely produce an aroma that might be more distinct and less stealth than the aroma produced by the waxes/oils. This will also require much more frequent changes of materials where a single wax filled cartomizer can easily last a week or much more depending on your use. The second biggest complaint about these vaporizers is with leakage. If your material has a low viscosity or it gets left in hot environments leakage can easily occur out of the top of the unit, and sometimes even out of the bottom of the unit where the threads are. This can be disheartening when your unit empty due to leakage. The best tip here is to keep the cartridge screwed on tight and not to store it on it's side in a warm environment.
My final gripe with this unit is it's unknown safety. I am not sure how much testing has been done on these cartomizers to see what, if any, harmful vapors they may create. I say this because often when I get a new cartridge it will taste bad, almost like burnt plastic, if I do not do a little burn off before filling. It definitely does not seem as flavorful as the Vaporbrothers vaporizer. We are in search of more data in this area to make sure we are not selling something harmful and will do our best to find the highest quality "vape pen" we can.

Side by Side Comparison: Vaporbrothers Mini vs. Clear Hydrator

Last month Vaporbrothers released the smaller side kick, the Mini Hydrator, to their already popular Clear Precision Hydrator. When I saw the Vaporbrothers Mini Hydrator for the first time, I thought it wasn't too "mini" next to the Vaporbrothers Clear Precision Hydrator.

At a quick glance the two bubblers look very similar. But upon closer inspection, the Clear Precision is a bit more elegant and finished looking. That may have to do with the female ground glass joints rising out of the body of the hydrator. Whereas with the Mini Hydrator, the only female ground glass joint is found tucked away inside the body giving it a squat or mini appearance next to the more regal Clear Precision Hydrator.

Both the Vaporbrothers Clear Precision and the Mini Hydrator are made in the U.S.A. from scientific, borosilicate glass. Each hydrator features the round old school Vaporbrothers logo (their logo has recently taken on a whole new appearance and can be found on the new Hands Free Vaporizer boxes) etched onto the glass body. The downstem on each hydrator is not removable. So if you break the downstem, it's game over.

One of the biggest differences between the two hydrators, is the redesigned mouthpiece found on the Mini. Vaporbrothers decided to make the Mini's mouthpiece non-removable. While it gives the Mini a rather clunky appearance, it adds a safety measure to the hydrator. The removable mouthpiece on the Clear Precision hydrator could literally be the downfall of that model. If someone grabbed the CP Hydrator by the mouthpiece and were not quick to react, the result usually ends up being a shattered hydrator. To those that use extra care, the removable mouthpiece on the Clear Precision offers extra advantages. If you break the mouthpiece on the Mini good luck trying to replace it, with the CP VaporWarehouse sells replacement mouthpieces for that hydrator. The other advantage, is with the use of a 14mm ground glass h2o adapter, a hose (VaporWarehouse recommends using Vaporbrothers Silicone hoses with all hydrators), and a mouthpiece of your choice you can extend of the reach of the hydrator. VaporWarehouse recommends using the Vaporbrothers Silicone Hose as they are much more flexible than the Vaporbrothers Clear Hoses.

Vaporists looking for diffusion, the Mini is the clear hands down winner. Unlike the Clear Precision, that has 3 slits on the bottom of the downstem, the Mini has five diffusion slits. Two on each side and one on the bottom for diffusion at it's finest.

Each Hydrator has it's own pluses and minuses. It's up to you to decide which one best suits your needs. If the budget is tight or you have clumsy friends go with the Vaporbrothers Mini Hydrator (although it's probably best to keep those friends away from all your glass). If you are more concerned with appearance or want more versatility, definitely go with the Vaporbrothers Clear Precision Hydrator. Both are great choices, there's no loser here.
