A tale of John Mayer and the Urb’n Lucite Grinder

Back in early 2001, I was working for Sony Music.  Columbia Records had just signed an new up and coming artist that was originally with Aware Records.  That artist was to play a show at Slim’s in San Francisco and the label requested that a group of us from the local branch take this artist out for a dinner prior to his performance.  There’s this Mexican restaurant located about a block from Slim’s that we used to take artists to eat at if they were playing Slim’s.  Many fun chips’n’salsa’n'tequila nights were spent there back when the music business was thriving.

Several us meet up at the restaurant and got started on our ritual orgy of chips, salsa and tequila.  Finally the young artist appeared and fit right in with our drunken group.  His name was John Mayer and was about as perverted as the rest of our strange and crazy group.  Right off the bat he told us of an idea he had to laminate porn mags, so when you were done using them you could just throw them in the dishwasher and clean them up for the next time.  One can only imagine the fun he had with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson.

Now what do grinders have to do with this story?  Well at the recent C.H.A.M.P.S. show in Las Vegas, our friends at Volo Trading (the folks that bring us the Kannastor and 1905 grinders)introduced us to a new grinder, the Urb’n Lucite Grinder.  This is a 2″ clear lucite grinder that comes with a very nifty storage tin.  The outside of the grinder measures 3″.  But the best thing about the Urb’n Grinder is that it’s dishwasher safe.  So if you’re like john Mayer you can throw your porn collection and grinder in the dishwasher at the same time.  We might even get a dishwasher friendly Vapor Brothers Vaporizer one day, who knows?
